The annual Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) Mountain Challenge returned in 2021, held September 30 – October 3 in Maine. Representing Cooper Consolidated were Charlie Gottbrath, Director of Non-Grain Freight and Logistics, and Kenny Burnsed, Port Manager, who finished sixth in the Junior Varsity division.
Taking place on land and water, the SCI Mountain Challenge parallels many of the hardships mariners face daily: the elements, isolation and physically demanding work. In addition to the outdoor elements, competitors participate in the “Philanthropy Challenge” to raise funds and awareness for SCI and its mariner support services. Founded in 1834, SCI is the largest, most comprehensive mariners’ agency in North America.
